Early High School didn’t wait long to get its first victory of the season as the school wrapped up practice on Wednesday with an inter-squad scrimmage. The purple team defeated the gold team by a score of 1 touchdown to 0.
Early football fan Quade John Smith stated that in his 27 years of watching Early football, yesterday’s inter-squad scrimmage victory was perhaps the most dominant effort he’s ever witnessed. “Early is exceeding everyone’s expectations, we are picked to only win one game this year, but here we are in our first competition of the season and we get a win. No one is happier that we beat ourselves than I am.” Asked about Early’s storied history in football, Smith stated, “no one has a history quite like ours. We are the king of purple in Texas High School Football.”
Early is looking forward to their season more than ever after the victory over themselves and perhaps their biggest game of the season will come against rival Bangs. “Last year, Bangs only beat us 35-18” said Smith. “If we just score a few more touchdowns, get a few more calls to go our way, or eliminate all of our turnovers, I think we just lose that game by 7.” Early will kick off the season with a loss to San Saba on August 29th.
